The meaning of the name
ILEPU Senior School draws its name from a layered vision of human growth. In Samburu, ilepu means "arise" or "ascend" — the image of the sun rising at dawn: steady, luminous, life-giving. It's a name that calls the school toward continual growth, in character, intellect, and purpose.
ILEPU is also an acronym: Integrity, Learning, Excellence, Peace, and Unity — the values that shape everyday life at the school and build a disciplined, inclusive community.
Philosophically, the name reflects education as ascent: in the tradition of Plato, where the learner turns from ignorance toward truth; and in the thought of Augustine of Hippo, where the person is drawn inward and upward toward wisdom and truth. Together, these strands describe a community dedicated to forming young people who are continually rising — in intellect, in integrity, in responsibility toward others.

What we're building
ILEPU is being designed as a modern, solar-powered senior secondary school under Kenya's CBC/CBE curriculum, on 5 of the 10 hectares purchased in 2024 — the remaining 5 hectares are set aside for cultivation. It will be the first school in the area to offer all three national senior-school pathways under one roof.
At full capacity, it will serve about 405 students across Grade 10 to Grade 12 (135 per grade, in classes of 45), choosing between:
- STEM — science, technology, engineering, mathematics
- Social Sciences
- Arts and Sports Science
The masterplan includes: 9 flexible classrooms and an administration block; biology, chemistry and physics laboratories; a computer lab and ICT infrastructure; technical and electrical workshops; an agriculture area with a greenhouse; a Home Science complex with a training kitchen, restaurant and textile room, teaching real vocational skills; a library and research center; a music department and a fine arts studio; a full sports complex — football pitch, basketball, volleyball, handball and tennis courts, and a swimming pool; a multipurpose hall for assemblies, exams and performances; a dining hall and kitchen; and staff housing.
The whole campus is designed to run primarily on solar power, with rainwater harvesting and water-conservation systems built in from the start — plus universal accessibility standards throughout, so every student can move through campus safely and independently.
